Dr. Jackson believes in medication assisted treatment. She understands every patient has a unique story and encourages individualized treatment that includes medications and behavioral therapies. When necessary as part of an effective treatment plan, Dr. Jackson utilizes prescribed medicines to treat substance use disorders.

What is Addiction?

The American Society of Addiction Medicine states:

“Addiction is a treatable, chronic medical disease involving complex interactions among brain circuits, genetics, the environment, and an individual’s life experiences. Prevention efforts and treatment approaches for addiction are generally as successful as those for other chronic diseases.”

Signs of Addiction

Addiction is a powerful and progressive disease. Common signs of addiction are broken down into three categories:

PHYSICAL

  • Over-active or under-active
  • Weight loss
  • Dilated pupils, red eyes

BEHAVIORAL

  • Missing work/school
  • Isolating
  • Legal problems

EMOTIONAL

  • Irritable
  • Defensive
  • Denial
